The content on Plugged Sun is for general information only. It is not electrical, legal or financial advice, and it is not a substitute for advice from a licensed electrician, your utility or a lawyer about your own home.
Plug-in solar connects to your home’s wiring. Use only equipment certified for that use, follow the maker’s instructions and your state’s rules, and don’t exceed the output your state and your circuit allow. If your wiring is old, an outlet is damaged, or you are unsure which circuit an outlet is on, talk to a licensed electrician before plugging anything in.
Laws, utility rules and certifications change. Check the date on each article and, before you buy, confirm the current rules with your state and your utility, and your lease or HOA rules where they apply.
Batteries and portable power stations store a lot of energy. Follow the maker’s instructions on charging, ventilation and storage, and never use a fuel generator indoors.
In an emergency, such as smoke, sparks or a burning smell, unplug only if it is safe to do so, and call your local emergency services.
